Anna Smith, Head Athletic Trainer

The Muskingum University Athletic Department has named Anna Smith as head athletic trainer.

Smith arrives in New Concord after serving as the associate athletic trainer at Augustana College since 2013. She was also an assistant athletic trainer at Augustana from 2007-13. During her tenure at Augustana, Smith oversaw volleyball, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's golf, baseball, and men's and women's tennis and was responsible for scheduling and coordinating the team physician's weekly visits. She revised and updated the Augustana Policy and Procedure Manual and developed and maintained the concussion return-to-learn policies. Smith also assisted with insurance claims and was instrumental in developing the training competencies for student assistants of athletic training.

Before Augustana, Smith completed her work on her master's degree in athletic training at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, where she completed a research project entitled The Effects of Four Different Landing Techniques on Ground Reaction Forces and Joint Kinematics. She received her bachelor's degree in athletic training from Weber State University in 2006 in Ogden, Utah, where she worked in the athletic department covering men's basketball, track & field, football, women's soccer, tennis, and cheerleading.

A native of Lancaster, Ohio, Smith is a member of several athletic trainers' associations, and she served as the in-charge athletic trainer at Miller High School in Corning, Ohio, during the 2006-07 school year. At Miller, Smith oversaw all football, volleyball, basketball, softball, track & field and cheerleading activities.

Emily Roberts, Assistant Athletic Trainer

Emily Roberts, DAT, MEd, AT, joined the Muskingum University athletic training staff in the spring of 2022.

Roberts graduated with a BA in athletic training from Muskingum University in 2020. She graduated with an MEd in kinesiology from Bowling Green State University in 2022. She graduated with a Doctor of Athletic Training (DAT) from Ohio University in 2024. Roberts has presented both her master’s and doctoral research at the 2022 and 2024 Ohio Athletic Trainers’ Association (OATA) Annual Meeting and Clinical Symposium. Her research topics of interest are focused on: Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in athletes; the evaluation, treatment, and management of abdominal injuries and GI conditions in athletes; general medical conditions in athletes; treatments for concussions (with particular attention towards return to learn activities) and sports nutrition.
