Baseball splits with John Carroll in OAC action

The Muskingum baseball team split in a road doubleheader against John Carroll. The Muskies finished with a 15-10 win in game one and dropped game two by a score of 4-3.

The Basics   

  • Records: Muskingum (16-4 overall, 2-2 OAC), John Carroll (13-7 overall, 3-1 OAC)   
  • Location: University Hts., Ohio - Schweickert Field

Inside The Numbers

Game 1  

  • Senior Tobie Teke and sophomore Aiden Reis led the Muskies with three hits a piece. Mellerson added one RBI and three runs scored while Teke rattled off two RBI's and one run scored.
  • Junior Sam Palmieri added two hits, four RBI's, and two runs scored.
  • Freshman Lex Castaneda logged two hits and three RBI's.
  • Sophomore Grant Mellerson had two hits, one RBI, and three runs scored.
  • Senior Weston Melick, sophomore Benny Hess, sophomore Conner Thamann, and freshman Jasper Owens each recorded a hit to round out the Muskie bats.
  • Palmieri tallied two doubles and the duo of Teke and Castaneda each had one double themselves.
  • Melick, Hess, and Thamann each launched a home run.
  • The Muskies combined for nine walks and two stolen bases.
  • Sophomore Shoei Yamashita went 5.1 innings in his start for the Muskies on the mound. He struck out four batters in his time.
  • The trio of sophomore Weston Hartman, junior Jake Roshau, and senior Nathan Johnson rounded out the game on the mound for the Muskies.
  • Roshau earned the win in his 1.2 innings of work.

Game 2  

  • Hess, Castaneda, and Mellerson led the Muskies at the plate wth two hits each.
  • Mellerson logged a triple in his action at the plate.
  • Sophomore Aiden Reis had one hit and two RBI's.
  • Owens, Teke, and Palmieri each finished with a hit.
  • Junior Joey Eurez, Palmieri, and Owens recorded the runs scored for the Muskies.
  • Teke, Castaneda, Eurez, and Hess each stole a base.
  • Sophomore Gavin Schultz and junior Max Vosters each went four innings on the mound for Muskingum.
  • Vosters finished the game in relief with two strikeouts and no runs allowed.

Up Next  

  • Muskingum will be back in action on Tuesday, April 1 when they host Marietta for an OAC doubleheader with first pitch at 1:00 p.m. The contest will be the teams One Love Game.
