Volleyball slips at Mount Union

The Muskingum volleyball team slipped at Mount Union on Wednesday night. The Muskies fell 3-0 to the Purple Raiders.

The Basics

How it Happened

  • After both teams found themselves in a 7-7 tie early on, it was Mount Union who used a 9-5 run to open up a 16-12 lead over the Muskies.
  • Despite Muskingum trimming the Purple Raider lead to 17-15, the Muskies were unable to get any closer as Mount Union claimed the 25-20 win in set one.
  • In the second frame, Mount Union made their presences felt with a quick 10-1 lead to open the set.
  • Muskingum was able to get within five points midway through the frame, but Mount Union managed to withstand the Muskie push and secure the 25-16 victory.
  • The third set featured back-and-fourth play for much of the frame with nine ties and seven lead changes.
  • After both teams were knotted at 13 apiece midway through the frame, Muskingum used a quick spurt to build a 19-15 lead.
  • Despite Muskingum holding the momentum, Mount Union fought back and tied the score at 21 all.
  • With the score once again tied, this time at 23, Mount Union tallied two straight points to secure the 25-23 win.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by junior Khloe Taylor with 12 kills, while senior Emma Conrad registered a game-high 29 assists. Conrad also chipped in eight digs and two kills for Muskingum.
  • Freshman Emma Johnson recorded seven kills, while junior Lexie Huck notched six kills and four digs.
  • Senior Emma Dunham finished with five kills, while senior Gracie Collins tallied a team-high 14 digs.
  • Freshman Quinn Horn added 10 digs for Muskingum as well.
  • Mount Union was led by Darby Leininger with 14 kills and four digs.
  • As a team, Muskingum totaled 37 kills, 35 assists, 51 digs, and five blocks.
