Volleyball slips at #18 Otterbein

The Muskingum volleyball team fell 3-1 to 18th-ranked Otterbein on Wednesday night.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (11-3 Overall, 0-1 OAC), Otterbein (13-4 Overall, 1-0 OAC)

How it Happened

  • After Otterbein jumped out to an 8-5 lead in set one, the Muskies managed to knot the score at 20 apiece late in the opening frame.
  • Muskingum used a late 5-2 surge to claim the opening set 25-22 over the Cardinals.
  • In set two, Otterbein stormed out to a quick 5-1 lead early on. Muskingum trimmed the Cardinal's lead down to three on multiple occasions, but Otterbein extended their lead late in the set to win 25-14.
  • Despite trailing 10-7 to start the third frame, Muskingum rallied with six straight points to take a 13-10 lead.
  • Muskingum extended their lead to 17-12 midway through the third set, but Otterbein then used a 7-0 run to reclaim a 19-17 lead.
  • Otterbein rode their momentum to the end of the third frame, winning the set 25-21.
  • Set four saw Otterbein jump out to a quick 13-5 lead. However, Muskingum battled back and trimmed the Cardinal's lead to just two at 20-18.
  • The Muskies were unable to complete the comeback, as Otterbein hung on for the 25-19 win.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by junior Khloe Taylor who poured in a season-high 19 kills. Taylor also added four digs.
  • Senior Emma Conrad dished out 34 assists for Muskingum, while also adding six digs and four kills.
  • Junior Lexie Huck had a strong outing with 12 kills, while senior Gracie Collins tallied a team-high 22 digs.
  • Senior Emma Dunham and junior Raegan Flood both notched five kills each, while freshman Quinn Horn recorded 11 digs.
  • Sophomore Addison Gingrich chipped in nine digs for Muskingum as well.
  • As a team, the Muskies totaled 46 kills, 38 assists, 64 digs, and six service aces.
