Volleyball sweeps Marietta in road OAC matchup

The Muskingum volleyball team dominated Marietta en route to a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday night.


The Basics
• Records: Muskingum (15-9, 6-2), Marietta (5-17, 2-6)
• Location: Ban Johnson Arena – Marietta, Ohio


Game Notes
• With the victory, Muskingum now holds a 6-2 record in the OAC, one game behind Ohio Northern and Mount Union who sit at 7-1. The Muskies are currently tied with Otterbein who also holds a 6-2 OAC record this year. There is one game remaining in the OAC regular season.


How it Happened
• In set one, Muskingum got out to an early 5-4 lead before turning on the jets and finishing the frame on a 20-4 run. Muskingum would claim the set 25-8.
• In set two, both teams played back-and-forth for much of the frame. Marietta held a 23-21 lead late, but Muskingum strung together four straight points to claim the second set 25-23.
• Muskingum used their momentum to claim the third set 25-17, finishing off their 3-0 sweep of the Pioneers.


Inside the Numbers
• Muskingum was led by junior Emma Dunham who hammered 12 kills in the Muskie victory.
• Sophomore tandem Raegan Flood and Lexie Huck each added nine kills for the Muskies.
• Senior Brooke Bigrigg chipped in eight kills for Muskingum, and she also tallied 12 digs.
• Senior Erin Dickson tallied a team-high 22 assists, while junior Emma Conrad dished out 18 assists.
• Freshman Kylie DeLuca also added 12 digs for Muskingum.
• Marietta was led by Becca Phelps with 11 kills, Braya Elsea with eight digs, and Jenna Szabelski with 25 assists.
• Muskingum totaled 49 kills, 45 assists, 47 digs, and six service aces.
• Marietta tallied 27 kills, 26 assists, 29 digs, and six service aces.
