Muskies go 2-0 at Fall Pioneer Classic

The Muskingum volleyball team went 2-0 at the Fall Pioneer Classic hosted by Transylvania University. The Muskies defeated the host Pioneers 3-2, and swept Hanover in dominating fashion, 3-0.

Game 1
The Basics
• Muskingum (8-6), Transylvania (7-9)
• Location: Clive M. Beck Center – Lexington, Ky.
• Attendance: 147

How it Happened
• In set one, the Muskies got out to a quick 12-6 lead, but the Pioneers were able to claw back and eventually tie the frame at 22 apiece.
• However, the Muskies would prevail, winning the first set 25-23.
• In set two both teams went back and forth, but it was Transylvania coming out on top, 25-22.
• Set three also saw both teams play neck and neck, but the Muskies were able to come up with timely kills down the stretch and win the third frame, 26-24.
• The Pioneers would get out to a commanding 14-7 lead early in the fourth set, and eventually win the frame 25-17.
• The winner-takes-all fifth set saw both teams trade points back and forth until the score was tied at 13. From there, the Muskies would score the final two points of the match, and squeeze out a 15-13 victory.
• Leading the Muskie attack was senior Brooke Bigrigg with 19 kills and eight assists.
• Sophomore Khloe Taylor also had a strong outing, tallying 15 kills.
• Junior Emma Dunham added 12 kills, and sophomore duo Lexie Huck and Hannah Gove each added six kills.
• Senior Erin Dickson led the Muskies with 23 assists, and junior Emma Dunham dished out 21 assists.
• The Pioneers were led by Cate Scheper with 22 kills.

Inside the Numbers
• The Muskies totaled 64 kills, 58 assists, 84 digs, eight blocks, and five service aces.
• The Pioneers tallied 65 kills, 63 assists, 97 digs, eight blocks, and four service aces.

How it Happened
• Set one saw both teams play evenly the entire way, with the Muskies narrowly winning the frame 26-24.
• In the second set, the Muskies settled in and took control, winning the frame 25-18.
• The final frame saw the Muskies dominate Hanover, winning the set 25-11 and sweeping the match.
• Leading the Muskies was senior Brooke Bigrigg with nine kills, while junior Emma Dunham added seven kills.
• Sophomore Lexie Huck also tallied seven kills, and sophomore Khloe Taylor chipped in five kills.
• Senior Erin Dickson dished out 16 assists for Muskingum, and junior Emma Conrad added 15 assists.
• Hanover was led by Maddie Edwards with 11 kills.

Inside the Numbers
• Muskingum recorded 34 kills, 34 assists, 61 digs, and 10 blocks.
• Hanover tallied 40 kills, 36 assists, 82 digs, and two blocks.

Up Next
The Muskies will jump back into OAC action when they travel to Ada on Wednesday, September 29 to face Ohio Northern. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
