Volleyball splits at ONU Invitational

The Muskingum Volleyball team split the day at the ONU Invitational, with back-to-back five-set thrillers. The Muskies fell to Mount St. Joseph 3-2, and defeated Wittenberg 3-2, on Friday.

Game 1

The Basics
• Muskingum (1-1), Mount St. Joseph (2-0)
• Location: ONU Sports Center – Ada, Ohio

How It Happened
• After dropping the first two sets 25-23 and 25-14, the Muskies were able to narrowly win set three, 25-22.
• The Muskies continued their strong play into set four, winning 25-21.
• After trading points in the winner-takes-all fifth set, Muskingum fell just short, losing 15-10.
• The Muskies were led by senior Maddie McGee with 18 kills.
• Senior Brooke Bigrigg added 15 kills and 21 digs as well.
• The Lions were led by Emily Abshire with 16 kills.

Inside the Numbers
• Muskingum tallied 52 kills, 41 assists, 89 digs, and seven blocks.
• Mount St. Joseph recorded 62 kills, 51 assists, 99 digs, and 11 blocks.

Game 2

The Basics
• Muskingum (2-1), Wittenberg (1-1)

How it happened
• The Muskies won the opening set 26-24.
• The Tigers would claw back winning set two and set four, forcing a winner-take all set five.
• After being down 13-11, the Muskies would go on a four point surge blanking the Tigers and winning the five-set thriller, 15-13.
• The Muskies were led by senior Brooke Bigrigg with 22 kills.
• Senior Maddie McGee added 12 kills and 16 digs as well.
• The Tigers were led by Katie Hiestand with 17 kills.

Inside the Numbers
• Muskingum tallied 58 kills, 51 assists, 76 digs, and two blocks.
• Wittenberg recorded 68 kills, 63 assists, 84 digs, and four blocks.

• The Muskies will continue ONU Invitational action when they face Hanover at 11:30 AM and Denison at 3:30 PM on Saturday, September 4.
