Dickson, Guist, Fatheree, Cottle, and Smith named volleyball captains

Muskingum head volleyball coach Hallie Cruzen has announced the selection of captains for the 2019 season. Junior setter Erin Dickson, junior outside hitter Brynn Guist, junior outside hitter Brooke Fatheree, junior libero Jessica Cottle, and junior defensive specialist Kamryn Smith will direct the Muskies on their 2019 fall campaign.

Dickson, a returning captain, has played in 58 matches and 203 sets. Dickson has secured a total of 183 kills, 41 service aces, 376 digs, and 83 total blocks throughout her two years for the Muskies. She has also recorded 1,969 assists, making her sixth overall in Muskingum history for career assists. Dickson, a Second Team All-OAC award winner, finished the year with a team-high 1,210 assists (10.34 assists-per-set). She also secured a total of 120 kills, 198 digs, and 52 total blocks. Last season, Dickson was named OAC Player of the Week for her tremendous performance against Mount Union and Baldwin Wallace. 

Fatheree, a returning captain and First Team All-OAC honoree, ended her sophomore campaign with a team-best 452 kills (3.86 kills-per-set) and ranked second with 446 digs (3.81 digs-per-set). She also chipped in 48 total blocks, 43 assists, and 19 service aces. Fatheree finished the regular season ranked first in kills and second in kills-per-set in the OAC.

Guist, a returning captain and Honorable Mention All-OAC honoree, recorded 326 kills last season, ranking second on the team in kills and kills per set. She recorded a team-best 100 blocks, 103 digs, and 24 service aces. 

Cottle, an Honorable Mention All-OAC award winner, finished the year with a team-high 622 digs, locking in 5.46 digs per set. She secured a ferocious 31 service aces in 32 matches played. Cottle ended her sophomore campaign ranked first in the OAC in digs and third in the OAC in digs per set. 

Smith has played in a total of 11 matches and 16 sets for the Muskies. Last season, Smith was one of six members on the Muskingum volleyball team to be awarded with Academic All-OAC Honor Roll accolades. 

Muskingum opens the season on Friday, August 30, against Earlham at the Mount Union Invitational. The Muskies open home play on Wednesday, September 18, against Bethany. Muskingum begins OAC play on Tuesday, September 24, at Ohio Northern.
