The Muskingum volleyball team hosted John Carroll in the opening round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Volleyball Tournament in front of an electrifying Muskie crowd on Tuesday night. The epic battle ended with the Blue Streaks leaving New Concord with a hard-fought 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 32-30) win.

  • Muskingum entered the OAC Tournament as the four-seed. The Muskies earned the top-four seed after beating John Carroll on Saturday.

How It Happened

  • Muskingum opened the first set with three straight points. John Carroll answered the early Muskie surge to tie the set at 3-3. The set remained close with the Blue Streaks pulling out the 25-23 win.
  • In the second set, John Carroll led 15-9 before the Muskies rallied with a 10-3 run to trim their deficit to 19-18. Following a Blue Streak time out, John Carroll outscored the Muskies 6-2 to claim the set.
  • The final set was an intense battle with the Muskies having two set points and the Blue Streaks having five match points before finally ending the contest on their sixth match-point attempt.
  • Scott led the Muskie net attack with 11 kills.
  • Sophomore Taylour Fatheree added 10 kills.
  • Sophomore Taylor Mathews had 37 assists and 16 digs.
  • Sophomore Deidre Prince recorded 27 digs.
  • John Carroll was led by Alex Webber and Sarah Orlandi who each registered 10 kills.
  • Kit O'Shaughnessy directed the attack with 36 assists.
