Volleyball slashes JCU on Senior Day to clinch home OAC Tournament game

The Muskingum volleyball team swept John Carroll on Senior Day to clinch its first Ohio Athletic Conference home tournament game since the 2008 season. The Muskies won 25-15, 25-17, 29-27.

  • With the win, Muskingum ended the OAC regular season tied for third with Baldwin Wallace.
  • The Muskies will be the four-seed in the OAC Tournament, based on the head-to-head tiebreaker, and host five-seed John Carroll on Tuesday, November 3 at 7:00 p.m. All fans are urged to wear red to the contest to Red Out the Blue Streaks.   • This will mark Muskingum's first home OAC Tournament contest since the 2008 season.
  • Prior to the game, Muskingum recognized seniors Lane Browning and Brooke Scott.

How It Happened

  • The Muskies surged out to a 17-8 lead in the opening set to take control. The Muskies continued their onslaught in set two by charging to an 18-10 lead. In the third set, Muskingum rallied from a 17-10 deficit and fought off two John Carroll set points to capture the thrilling victory.
  • Scott and sophomore Taylour Fatheree led the net attack with 13 kills each. Scott also had four blocks and Fatheree had three blocks.
  • Freshman Ashley Reynolds and junior Katie Hunt each added nine spikes.
  • Sophomore Taylor Mathews directed the attack with 47 assists.
  • Sophomore Deidre Prince and sophomore Courtney Nestoff protected the back row with 32 and 18 digs, respectively.
  • Muskingum ended the contest with 54 kills, 51 assists, 48 digs and 10 blocks.

In Muskingum's second match of the day, the Muskies defeated Denison, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-15).

  • Muskingum ended the match with 48 kills and 15 blocks against the Big Red.
