The Muskingum volleyball team notched a big Ohio Athletic Conference win against rival Mount Union in front of an energized Rec Center on Tuesday night, 3-1 (27-25, 23-25, 25-16, 25-17).
The Basics
- Records: Muskingum (18-8 overall, 4-2 OAC), Mount Union (14-9 overall, 3-3 OAC)
- Location: New Concord, Ohio - at Muskingum's Recreation Center
Match Notes
- The win marked Muskingum's first win against Mount Union since the 2008 season. The last time Muskingum beat Otterbein and Mount Union in the same season was in 2008 when the Muskies advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
- In the opening set, Muskingum overcame an early deficit to take a 6-3 lead. The Muskies extened its margin to 18-14 and withstood a late Mount Union rally to secure the 27-25 win.
- In the second set, Muskingum had a 14-8 lead melt away en route to dropping the frame 25-23.
- In the third set, Muskingum broke open a close 9-6 battle with an 8-2 spurt to take control of the set with a 17-8 lead.
- Muskingum closed out the match with a 25-17 win in the final set. The Muskies jumped out to an 8-3 lead and extended it to 19-10 late in the set.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Taylour Fatheree led the Muskie net attack with 19 kills and four blocks.
- Junior Katie Hunt added 18 spikes and two blocks.
- Freshman Ashley Reynolds had 14 kills.
- Sophomore Taylor Mathews registered 54 assists and 19 digs.
- Sophomore Deidre Prince recorded 26 digs.
- Sophomore Courtney Nestoff had 19 digs.
- Muskingum ended the outing with 64 kills, 55 assists, 11 blocks and 110 digs.
