Volleyball plays five-set thriller at BW

The Muskingum volleyball team and Baldwin Wallace engaged in a five-set thriller to open Ohio Athletic Conference play on Saturday in Berea. The Yellow Jackets claimed the instant classic, 3-2 (19-25, 25-21, 20-25, 25-17, 15-13).

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (13-6 overall, 0-1 OAC), Baldwin Wallace (18-3 overall, 1-0 OAC)
  • Notes: The loss snapped Muskingum's season-high seven game winning streak.

How It Happened

  • Muskingum jumped out to a 2-1 set lead. The Yellow Jackets rallied past the Muskies by winning the final two sets to claim the win.
  • Muskingum ended the outing with 65 kills, 60 assists, 84 digs and 12 blocks.
  • Sophomore Taylor Fatheree led the attack with 17 kills.
  • Freshman Ashley Reynolds had 14 spikes and three blocks.
  • Senior Brooke Scott had 13 kills and junior Katie Hunted logged 12 kills and five blocks.
  • Sophomore Taylor Mathews directed the attack with 52 assists. She also added 20 digs.
  • Sophomore Deidre Prince recorded a team-best 25 digs.
  • Baldwin Wallace ended the game with 56 kills, 49 assists, 75 digs and 17 blocks.
  • Morgan Thomas led the net attack with a game-high 19 spikes, with four blocks.
  • Alicia Lortcher added 15 kills and had two blocks.
  • Lauren Gehring recorded six blocks.
  • Ashley Nuding registered 43 assists.
  • Arlayna Newcomer had 23 digs and Alicia Lortcher had 17 digs to pace the BW defensive effort.
