The Muskingum volleyball team travels back to New Concord, Ohio, after a promising 3-1 start to their season at the St. Vincent Tournament. Following the tournament sophomore Taylor Mathews was named to the all-tournament team.
Game 1—Muskingum 3, Frostburg St. 1 (26-24, 25-16, 25-18)
How It Happened
- As a team, the Muskies had 42 kills, 61 digs, and eight blocks.
At the Net
- Junior Katie Hunt led the Muskies with 14 kills.
- Sophomore Taylour Fatheree had eight kills and three blocks.
- Senior Brooke Scott and freshman Ashley Reynolds had seven kills.
- For Frostburg, Naya Cheatem recorded 12 kills and one block.
Assisting the Attack
- Mathews recorded 24 assists.
- Sophomore Laura Hill had 12 assists.
- For Frostburg, Madelyn Torres guided the attack with 23 assists.
Defending the Court
- Sophomore Deidre Prince logged 12 digs.
- Senior Lane Browning had 11 digs.
- Frostburg defense was led by Lindsey Scepura with 17 digs.
Game 2—Wooster 3, Muskingum 1 (11-25, 25-19, 25-20, 25-21)
How It Happened
- Muskingum lost a tough battle against the Fighting Scots, but ended with a team total 51 kills, 84 digs and 12 blocks.
At the Net
- The Muskie attack was led by Scott with 11 kills and four blocks.
- Reynolds slammed 10 kills.
- Hunt accumulated eight kills and two blocks.
- The Fighting Scots were led by Lydia Webster with 11 kills and two blocks.
Assisting the Attack
- Mathews guided the attack with 26 assists.
- The duo of Brittany Nicholson and Savannah Moore had 18 and 15 assists, respectively, to guide the Fighting Scots.
Defending the Court
- Prince and Browning shared the spotlight by recording 16 digs each for Muskingum.
- Gabrielle Basinski of Wooster racked up 33 digs.
Game 3—Muskingum 3, Allegheny 0 (25-13, 26-24, 25-21)
How It Happened
- Muskingum defeated Allegheny in a tough match-up with a total of 45 kills, 88 digs, and 10 blocks.
At the Net
- Fatheree led the offensive side with 10 kills and accounted for three blocks.
- Scott and Hunt added to the attack with nine kills apiece.
- Allegheny's Taylor Samuel logged nine kills against the Muskies.
Assisting the Attack
- Mathews recorded a season-best 34 assists to propel the Muskies to their victorious offensive attack.
- Allegheny's attack was guided by Justine Kelly with 26 assists.
Defending the Court
- Prince and Browning worked at keeping the back court secure with 22 and 18 digs, respectively.
- Terra Schall of Allegheny recorded 29 digs.
Game 4—Muskingum 3, St. Vincent 2 (21-25, 25-15, 25-20, 20-25, 15-7)
How It Happened
- Muskingum defeated the hosts in a grueling five-set thriller to end the event.
At the Net
- Scott led the Muskies with 14 kills. She also added four blocks.
- Hunt added 12 spikes and three blocks.
- Fatheree had 11 kills and six blocks.
- Rachel Hast led the Bearcats with 14 kills and two blocks.
Assisting the Attack
- Mathews set a new career-high with 43 assists to lead the Muskie attack. She also added 24 digs.
- Ayssa Luther led the Bearcats with 24 assists and 16 digs.
Defending the Court
- Prince and Browning led the back court defensive effort with 14 and 13 digs, respectively.
- Brittany George recorded 23 digs.
