Muskies post 3-1 mark at OAC/HCAC Challenge

The Muskingum volleyball team played four straight five-set matches at the OAC/HCAC Challenge hosted by Bluffton Friday-Saturday. The Muskies posted a record of 3-1.

The Muskingum volleyball team opened play on Friday rallying from a two-set deficit to beat Hanover, 21-25, 22, 25, 25-16, 25-16, 15-9.

Junior Brooke Scott led the Muskies at the net with 14 kills and four blocks. Sophomore Katie Hunt added 11 spikes and six blocks and senior Alexa Abrams registered 10 kills.

The tandem of freshman Taylor Mathews and sophomore Kaleigh Hendrix directed the attack. Mathews logged 25 assists and Hendrix added 17.

Defensively, freshman Deidre Prince recorded 20 digs, while junior Lane Browning had 19 digs and Hendrix added 12.

Muskingum ended the outing with 53 kills, 49 assists, 66 digs and 24 total blocks.

Kelsey Brandvik led Hanover with 12 kills and Shelby Hart logged 20 assists.

Against Transylvania, the Muskies lost a five-set thriller 14-25, 25-21, 15-25, 27-25, 11-15.

Freshman Taylour Fatheree led the team with 11 kills, while Scott, Hunt and Abrams each logged nine kills each. Fatheree also added five solo blocks and Hunt had two.

Mathews led the squad with 22 assists and Hendrix added 12.

Muskingum opened play on Saturday with a 3-2 (25-13, 25-21, 25-27, 20-25, 15-10) win against Mount St. Joseph.

Scott had 10 kills and and six blocks, while Fatheree added eight kills and 12 blocks. Hunt also had seven kills and nine blocks.

Mathews ended the match with 26 assists and Hendrix chipped in 12 assists.

Abrams registered an eight-kill, 19-dig performance and Prince recorded 21 digs.

The Muskies concluded play by rallying to beat Bluffton in five sets, 21-25, 24-26, 25-22, 25-22, 15-13.

Scott had a team-high 18 kills, with six blocks. Hunt added 13 spikes and eight blocks, while Fatheree had 11 kills.

Abrams logged 12 kills and 16 digs. Freshman Shelbie Wiseman had 15 digs.

Mathews directed the attack with 42 assists.

Muskingum (13-6) next hosts Kenyon on Thursday, September 25. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
