Volleyball posts 3-1 mark at Wooster

The Muskingum volleyball team went 3-1 on the road this weekend at the Wooster Kilt Classic.

On Friday against Franciscan, Muskingum won 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-19).

Sophomore Katie Hunt and junior Brooke Scott ran the attack with nine and eight kills, respectively.  Freshman Chloe Brandewie helped defend the net by recording four blocks. Hunt also added for three blocks.

Muskingum's attack was directed by freshman Taylor Mathews, who had 20 assists.

Freshman Deidre Prince logged 19 digs and Brandewie added 17 digs.

Muskingum finished the match with 28 kills, 27 assists, and 61 digs.

To finish off play for Friday, Muskingum beat Wooster 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-16).

Scott posted 13 kills against the Fighting Scots, while freshman Taylour Fatheree logged eight. Hunt and senior Alexa Abrams also added to the attack with seven kills each. Freshman Laura Hill had four blocks.

Sophomore Kaleigh Hendrix aided with the Muskie attack with 22 assists. Hill was also there to guide some of the attacks with 13 assists.

Prince and Abrams rounded out the defense with 13 and nine digs, respectively.

The Muskies recorded 38 kills, 38 assists, and 49 digs.

On Saturday, Muskingum fell to Bluffton 3-1 (23-25, 25-16, 25-21, 25-19).

Hunt ran the net for the Muskies with seven kills and five blocks. Fatheree also added to the attack with eight kills.

Hendrix and Hill directed the attack with 15 and 10 assists, respectively.

To help Muskingum's backcourt were Prince, with 10 digs, and freshman Shelbie Wiseman with four.

Muskingum as a team ended with 29 kills, 30 digs, and 14 blocks.

The Muskies ended the Kilt Classic with a 3-1 (25-17, 21-25, 25-20, 25-14) win against Oberlin.

Hunt led the squad with 14 kills en route to a .345 hitting percentage. Scott added 10 kills.

Hendrix directed the attack with 16 assists Hill added 14 assists.

Deidre led the defensive effort with 19 digs.

Muskingum next plays at Franciscan on Wednesday, September 17. Match time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
