Muskingum names Dani Gunderson Head Coach of Women's Soccer

The Muskingum University Athletic Department has announced the hiring of Dani Gunderson as Head Coach of Women's Soccer.

Gunderson arrives at Muskingum after a highly successful four-year stint as an assistant coach at Denison University. Throughout her tenure with the Big Red, Denison won one North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, one NCAC Tournament title, and advanced to the NCAA Division III Tournament. During Gunderson's time with the Big Red, Denison amassed 38 overall wins and logged an impressive 20-6-6 mark in conference play. She coached 24 All-NCAA student-athletes, five all-region players, three NCAC Players of the Year and one All-America and All-America Scholar-Athlete.

"I'm excited to welcome Dani to the Muskingum family," said Vice President and Athletic Director Steve Brockelbank. "Her proven championship style of coaching and leadership will help elevate the women's soccer program within the Ohio Athletic Conference and the region. I'm looking forward to the impact she will have on our student-athletes."

Gunderson came to Denison after one season as an assistant coach at Frostburg State University in Frostburg, Maryland. In 2015 at Frostburg, the Bobcats went 10-7-3 and were 6-1-2 in Capital Athletic Conference play. She coached four All-CAC players and one all-region selection. Before coaching at Frostburg State, Gunderson spent two seasons as an assistant coach at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania.

"I want to personally thank Vice President and Athletic Director Steve Brockelbank and the entire search committee for giving me the opportunity to join the athletic department at Muskingum University," said Gunderson. "After visiting campus and meeting with the committee, it was clear to me the vision of the University and the athletic department matched mine. I am excited to start working with the student-athletes and I look forward to being a Muskie!"

A 2013 graduate of Christopher Newport University with a bachelor's in psychology, Gunderson began her college career at Division I Radford University, where she played 14 games and helped the Highlanders to the Big South Conference Tournament semifinals.

Prior to her sophomore season, Gunderson transferred to Division III Christopher Newport where she finished her college playing career. While at CNU, Gunderson helped the Captains reach three USA South Conference Tournament finals. In 2010, her squad won the conference regular season and tournament title and the following year the Captains won a USA South regular-season championship.
Gunderson was a three-time All-USA South selection. As a senior, she was a first-team all-conference pick and an NSCAA All-South Region selection after scoring 14 goals and six assists. She was also a first-team VaSID College Division All-State team honoree.

Furthermore, Gunderson played two seasons for the W-League's Virginia Beach Piranhas, one season as a player/assistant coach for the WPSL's Virginia Beach City FC, and most recently as a player for Columbus Eagles FC.
