Women's Soccer christens new turf with season-opening victory

The Muskingum women's soccer team christened the new turf on Sherman Field with a season-opening 1-0 victory against Ohio Christian on Thursday night. 

The game marked the first collegiate contest to be played on the newly installed FieldTurf Revolution 360. Prior to the start of the contest, Muskingum President Dr. Susan S. Hasseler performed a ceremonial first kick.

How It Happened

  • Muskingum freshman Emily Fischer delivered the game-winning goal in the 60th minute. After entering the game just seconds before, Fischer played a deflected ball off the Ohio Christian defense that found the back of the net. The tally marked Fischer's first career goal.
  • The Muskies out shot the Trailblazers by a slim 30-29 margin. Senior Morgan Price and freshman Autumn Devine led the team with nine shots each. Devine recorded a team-high seven shots on goal. Muskingum ended the outing with 17 shots on frame.
  • Junior Stephanie Siwicki added five shots.
  • Senior Liz Mitchell, sophomore Emily Wiley, freshman Julia Prokopchak, junior Lauren McKell, and senior Sarah Landuyt led the defensive backline en route to the shutout.
  • Ohio Christian was led by sophomore Haylee Francis with eight shots.
  • Trailerblazer Brooke White added seven shots.

Between the Pipes

  • Mitchell played 90 outstanding minutes in frame, making 10 saves.
  • Mekayla Deffenbaugh recorded 16 saves in 90 minutes of action.
