Women's soccer comeback goal drives game to overtime

With a large contingent of Muskie fans watching, the Muskingum women's soccer team battled Illinois Tech to a double overtime 1-1 draw in the opening game of the Scarlet Hawk Classic in Chicago on Friday evening. 

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (0-3-1 overall), Illinois Tech (1-2-1 overall)
  • Location: Chicago, Illinois - at Stuart Field

How It Happened

  • Freshman Hailey Ferguson scored her first career goal in the 61st minute to tie the game. She took a pass from junior Morgan Price and beat a pair of defenders with a blast in the box to the far post. Ferguson ended the outing with three shots.
  • Price helped drive the Muskie attack with six shots, including five on frame.
  • Freshman Rachael Waite posted three shots to help aid the Muskies.
  • Muskingum ended the game with 17 shots and four corner kicks.
  • Jessica Park scored the Illinois Tech in the 11th minute on a through ball from Olivia Kochanek.
  • The Scarlet Hawks hoisted 29 shots and had nine corner kicks.
  • The game marked Muskingum's first draw since Senior Day last year when the Muskies and John Carroll played to a 1-1 double overtime draw.
  • The Muskie defensive effort was anchored by senior Hailey Dickey, sophomore Stephanie Siwicki, freshman Jalyn Thompson, sophomore Lauren McKell and freshman Mallory Buckley.

Between The Pipes

  • Junior Liz Mitchell held the Scarlet Hawks scoreless over the final 74 minutes of play. She made seven saves and did not allow a goal. Freshman Heather Maxwell started between the pipes and allowed one goal and made two saves in 36 minutes of work.
  • Roxanne Myers played the entire game in frame and made eight saves and allowed one goal.
