The Muskingum wrestling team finished 2-1 overall at the Washington & Lee Duals Monday afternoon, falling to Lycoming (45-9) and defeating Southern Virginia (39-10) and Greensboro (28-21).
The Basics
- Location: Lexington, Va. - Warner Center
On the Mat
- Muskingum was led on the day by junior Anthony Cole-Young and sophomore Jordan Burkholder.
- In the opening bout with Lycoming, Burkholder registered a fall in 2:53 against Garrett Lockwood to put the Muskies on top 6-0.
- Cole-Young captured the Muskies final points of the match as he claimed an 8-5 decision against Brandon Wilson.
- Lycoming went on to win the dual 45-9.
- The Muskies bounced back defeating Southern Virginia 39-10.
- Burkholder recorded his second win, 18-3 over Jayson Cody to put Muskingum on top 5-0.
- Freshman Dillen Lewis, sophomore Austin Ness, and senior Jonathan Muntz all picked up wins via forfeit to extend the Muskingum lead to 23-0.
- Sophomore Tanner Walker picked up a win at the 165-pound match-up as he claimed the 19-4 technical fall over Matthew Rohrdanz.
- At the 184-pound clash, Michael Kashuba also picked up a win.
- Cole-Young sealed the Muskingum victory as he defeated Caleb West by technical fall, 24-7.
- Muskingum finished the day with a 28-21 victory over Greensboro.
- Burkholder opened the match for Muskingum with a first period fall against Gabriel Wilson.
- At the 149-pound match, sophomore Toby Warrington defeated Ryan Dominique, 13-1, to cut the deficit to 12-10.
- Muntz claimed an 11-3 victory at the 157-pound bout defeating Samuel Hargrove and giving Muskingum the 14-12 advantage.
- Walker extended the Muskie lead with a 16-0 technical fall victory against Micah Hines.
- Cole-Young continued to find success on the mat as he defeated Marquez Keyes via decision.
- Freshman Brandon Cox closed out the dual with a first period pin to secure the 28-21 victory.
