Big second-half propels women’s lacrosse past Bethany

The Muskingum Women's Lacrosse team outscored Bethany 7-3 in the second-half en route to securing a 13-8 victory on Wednesday evening at the North Athletic Turf Field.

  • The Muskingum and Bethany women's lacrosse teams dedicated the contest to the life and legacy of Morgan Rodgers, a Duke University Lacrosse student-athlete who passed away battling mental health struggles. Morgan's message was created by her family and former teammates with the mission to eliminate the stigma surrounding mental health.

How it Happened

  • Muskingum jumped on top, outscoring the Bison 3-2 in the opening quarter.
  • Both teams tallied three goals in the second quarter, but it was Muskingum that held a 6-5 lead heading into the break. 
  • In the third quarter, Muskingum outscored Bethany 3-2 to carry a 9-7 lead into the final frame.
  • Muskingum scored four goals in the fourth en route to the home win. 

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by sophomore Riley Hudock who tallied five goals, five ground balls, and three draw controls. 
  • Sophomore Haley Clifton scored three goals and grabbed three ground balls, while sophomore Riley Zwagerman notched two goals and had three draw controls.
  • Freshman Maria Decaminada, sophomore Megan Lang, and senior Raiyah Johnson each tallied one goal apiece to pace the Muskingum offensive effort. Lang dished out two assists, while senior Sara Woods and Johnson added one assist apiece. 
  • Freshman goalkeeper Kyleigh Dahlgren secured a career-best 16 saves and grabbed nine ground balls in the net for Muskingum.
  • Cassidy Mailloux and Abbie Carpenter led Bethany with two goals each. 
  • Leah Crihfield played 50:30 minutes in goal and made seven saves for Bethany.
  • Muskingum ended the outing with a slim 28-27 advantage in shots, while Bethany held a 14-11 advantage in draw controls.
