Under the direction of Head Coach Lindsey Grundfast, the Muskingum women's lacrosse team will look to elevate the program to be an Ohio Athletic Conference contender this 2023 season. The Muskies will open their season on Saturday, February 18, when they host Kalamazoo at the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex. The game is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. start.
The Coach: Muskingum will be led by Head Coach Lindsey Grundfast who enters her second year with the Muskies. Last season, under Grundfast's leadership, student-athletes left their mark in the record books, reaching top ten marks in goals, assists, draw controls, and groundballs for a single season. Additionally, under Grundfast, two student-athletes earned All-OAC accolades for their outstanding play. The 2022 season marked the first time in program history the Muskies have had a player receive All-OAC Second Team honors, and the first time Muskingum has had two student-athletes earn All-OAC accolades in the same season.
The Players: This season, Muskingum will be guided by sophomore midfielder Riley Hudock, sophomore midfielder Riley Zwagerman, and sophomore attack Megan Lang. Hudock, an All-OAC Honorable Mention honoree last year set the school record for points in a season with 48 (41 goals, 7 assists) and caused turnovers with 27. Hudock ranked third in goals in a season with 41, tied for sixth in assists with seven, and currently ranks second in program history in draw controls with 60 and seventh in ground balls with 42. Zwagerman started in 12 games last season for Muskingum, while also tallying 33 draw controls which placed her 10th in program history for a single season. She ended the 2022 campaign with 16 goals, six assists, 29 groundballs and seven caused turnovers. Lang set the program record for points in a game with 13 against Waynesburg last season and finished tied for sixth in assists with seven. Lang capped off her freshman campaign starting in 13 games, tallied 18 goals, secured nine groundballs and had four caused turnovers. The Muskies have also brought in a solid class of newcomers and transfers into the program that will look to make an immediate impact to Muskingum's success this season.
The Schedule: The schedule features a 16-game season, where the Muskies will play a total of nine non-conference matches and seven Ohio Athletic Conference contests. Muskingum will also host Kalamazoo for its season/home opener on Saturday, February 18, and St. Vincent on Wednesday, March 15, inside the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex. The contests will mark the first time the Muskies will play at the Bullock Health and Wellness Complex and the first time since the 2017 season they have played at Sherman Field. Muskingum will begin conference play on Saturday, March 25, when they host Baldwin Wallace at the North Athletic Turf Field for an OAC showdown. The time is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
