Women’s Lacrosse ready for 2022 spring season

After competing in a conference-only 2021 spring campaign, the Muskingum women's lacrosse team looks to make a run in the OAC this upcoming season. The Muskies open their season on Sunday, February 20, when they host Albion. The game is scheduled for a 12:00 p.m. start.

The Coach: Muskingum will be led by first-year head coach Lindsey Grundfast. Grundfast arrived at Muskingum after serving three years as the head coach of the Earlham College women's lacrosse program. During her time with Earlham, Grundfast led a turnaround of the Quaker program that led the 2019 team to a second-place finish in the Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) and a first-ever berth in the HCLC Tournament as the two-seed. During her time with the Quakers, she coached seven players who were recognized with All-HCLC honors.

The Players: Players to lead the charge for the Muskies this year are senior defender Emily Jackson, sophomore defender/midfielder Emily Mullikin, sophomore midfielder Victoria Machado Diaz, and sophomore goalkeeper Cailin Wise. Jackson started all 12 games, secured five groundballs, and forced three caused turnovers. Mullikin played 10 games and secured six groundballs in the 2021 season for Muskingum. Machado Diaz played all 12 games, tallied her first collegiate goal, and secured three groundballs. Wise played in all 12 games for the Muskies between the pipes and registered 119 saves last season. The Muskies have also brought a solid freshmen class into the program and will look for growth and contributions from them this upcoming season.

The Schedule: The schedule features a 15-game season, where the Muskies will play a total of seven non-conference matches and eight Ohio Athletic Conference contests. The Muskies begin conference play on Saturday, March 26, when they host Otterbein at the North Athletic Turf Field for an OAC showdown. The time is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.

Broadcasts: All home games will feature live video and live stats on the Muskie Sports Network and can be accessed on fightingmuskies.com/or, the OAC TV app.
