Women’s Basketball suffers home loss to Mount Union

The Muskingum women's basketball team suffered a 71-56 setback to Mount Union on Wednesday night in the Steele Center.

Notables

  • The Muskies are in the hunt for an OAC Tournament bid that is reserved for the top six teams at the end of the regular season. Muskingum is one game back of sixth place, which Capital and Wilmington currently hold.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by freshman Tori Jones and junior Taylor DeMassimo who each scored 10 points. DeMassimo grabbed a team-high eight rebounds, while Jones dished out three assists and grabbed three boards.
  • Freshman Lizzy Allen and sophomore Caitlyn DeMassimo each finished the contest with nine points apiece. Allen notched team-highs in assists with four and steals with three, while DeMassimo grabbed three rebounds and two steals.
  • Freshman Courtney Hivick tallied seven points and one block coming off the bench for Muskingum, while freshman Claudia Harrington added six points and two rebounds.
  • Mount Union was led by Emma Cannon who registered a game-high 18 points and three rebounds, while McKayla Dunkle added 11 points to pace the Purple Raider offense.
  • Aa a team, Muskingum finished 22-for-57 (38.6%) from the field, while the Purple Raiders shot 28-for-66 (42.4%) from the floor.
  • Mount Union was 10-for-23 (43.5%) from beyond the arc, while Muskingum finished 9-for-29 (31.0%) from three-point range.
  • The Purple Raiders held a 41-32 edge in rebounds, while also holding a 17-11 advantage in second chance points.
  • Mount Union forced 15 Muskingum turnovers and converted them into 20 points-off-turnovers. The Muskies forced the Purple Raiders to cough up the ball 10 times and converted them into seven points-off-turnovers.
