Stifling defense and hot shooting propels Women’s Basketball past Heidelberg

The Muskingum women's basketball team used stifling defense and shot 52.9% from the floor en route to a dominating 68-40 victory over Heidelberg in the Steele Center on Saturday.

  • With the win, Muskingum swept the Student Princes' season series.
  • Muskingum has now won three of its last four games. 
  • The Muskies are in the hunt for an OAC Tournament bid that is reserved for the top six teams at the end of the regular season. Muskingum is one game back in the win column of sixth place which is currently held by John Carroll and Capital. 
  • The Muskies host Wilmington for its Muskie Pride game in a pivotal OAC match-up on Wednesday, February 8. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.

Inside the Numbers

  • The freshmen duo Anna Lippiatt and Lizzy Allen led the Muskingum scoring surge ending the night with 14 points apiece. Lippiatt also grabbed five boards, while Allen dished out three assists, grabbed four rebounds, and had a team-high three steals.
  • Freshman Tori Jones added 12 points and three rebounds coming off the bench for the Muskies, while sophomore Caitlyn DeMassimo finished with a team-high six rebounds and nine points.
  • Junior Taylor DeMassimo finished with seven points and four rebounds, while sophomore Halle Morehead chipped in a team-high six assists
  • Brigid Enright led the Student Princes with eight points and three rebounds, while Kristen Harrah contributed seven points.
  • As a team, the Muskies finished 27-for-51 (52.9%) from the field, while Heidelberg went 16-for-54 (29.6%) from the floor.
  • Muskingum shot 9-for-18 (50.0%) from three-point range, while Heidelberg shot 2-for-14 (14.3%) from beyond the arc.
  • Muskingum controlled the glass, finishing with a 38-27 advantage
  • Muskingum forced 13 Student Prince turnovers and converted them into 17 points-off-turnovers.
  • The Muskies saw their bench contribute 32 points.
