Women’s Basketball uses fourth-quarter surge to defeat Earlham in home-opener

The Muskingum women's basketball team outscored Earlham 17-9, in the fourth quarter to secure a 63-58 home-opening win Saturday night in the Steele Center.

  • With 2:46 left, Muskingum took a 56-55 lead off a Halle Morehead driving layup to take control of the contest.
  • With clutch baskets from Claudia Harrington and Caitlyn DeMassimo, Muskingum used a 7-3 run to close out the game and secure the home-opening victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • Muskingum was led by freshman Claudia Harrington who recorded her first collegiate double-double. Harrington tallied a game-high 20 points, 10 rebounds, one steal and one assist. She ended the evening shooting, 7-of-12 (58.3%) from the field and 2-of-4 (50.0%) from beyond the arc.
  • Sophomore Caitlyn DeMassimo also tallied a double-double to pace the Muskingum scoring effort. DeMassimo finished with 11 points, 10 rebounds, three steals, and one assist.
  • Sophomore Halle Morehead registered 12 points, dished out five assists, had one block, and added one steal.
  • Junior Taylor DeMassimo chipped in seven points and three rebounds, while senior Casey Smith ended the outing with six points.
  • Aiding the Muskies to its victory was a 36-28 advantage in points in the paint.
  • The Muskies forced 23 Quaker turnovers and converted them into a 21-19 edge on points-off-turnovers.
  • Muskingum finished with 37 rebounds, 13 assists, and 13 steals.
  • Earlham was led by Neely Trenshaw who finished with 17 points.
  • Earlham finished with 34 rebounds, nine assists, and 15 steals.
