Women’s Basketball looks to carry momentum into 2022-23 season

Under the direction of first-year head coach Kelly Broderick, the Muskingum women's basketball team looks to carry last season's momentum into the 2022-23 campaign. With five returning letter winners and a solid incoming class, the Muskies will look to combine experience and talent to make some noise in the OAC this upcoming season.

The Coach: Muskingum will be led by first-year head coach Kelly Broderick. Broderick arrives in New Concord after serving the past four seasons as the women's basketball head coach at Medaille College in Buffalo, New York. Under Broderick's guidance, 17 student-athletes earned academic all-conference honors, while several of her players earned all-conference accolades. She coached several players who ended their careers ranked in the top 10 at Medaille in scoring, assists, and rebounds.

Last season, the Muskies posted their first 10-win season since the 2016-17 campaign. Along with that, Muskingum earned its first OAC Tournament win against Heidelberg, marking the program's first OAC Tournament win since the 2012-13 season. The campaign also highlighted regular season milestones such as setting school records for most three-points made (18) and assists (30) in a game against Mt. St. Joseph, and sweeping OAC opponents Capital and Heidelberg.

Coach Broderick will have five returning letterwinners to help guide the Muskie squad – sophomore guard Halle Morehead, sophomore guard Kenzie Bicking, senior guard Casey Smith, junior guard Taylor DeMassimo, and sophomore guard/forward Caitlyn DeMassimo

Morehead played in all 25 games for the Muskies last season, averaging 5.3 points per game. She also registered 2.2 rebounds per game and 2.3 assists per contest.

Bicking returns for her sophomore season after tallying 3.7 points per game last season. Bicking registered a 35% three-point percentage and looks to make a presence outside of the arc for the Muskies this season.

Smith played in all 25 games with seven starts for the Muskies last season, averaging 7.4 points per game and also registered 4.4 rebounds per contest.

Taylor DeMassimo earned Second Team All-OAC honors last year and led the team in scoring with 12.0 points per game. She also averaged 36% from three-point range and snagged a team-high 144 rebounds averaging 5.8 per contest.

Caitlyn DeMassimo looks to build on a solid season she turned in last year. Averaging 11.0 points per game, and 4.4 rebounds per contest, DeMassimo will play a huge role in the paint for Muskingum this season.
