Women’s Basketball stumbles at Mount Union

The Muskingum women's basketball team fell in their road OAC match-up against Mount Union, 84-71 on Wednesday night in Alliance.

Records: Muskingum (9-13 overall, 4-11 OAC), Mount Union (8-12 overall, 6-9 OAC)

How it Happened

  • After both teams traded baskets in the opening minutes of the contest, Mount Union built a 14-3 run to lead, 27-13 after the opening quarter.
  • The Muskies chipped away at the Purple Raider lead drawing within eight, before Mount Union strung together a 11-4 run to end the first half. The Muskies trailed, 44-29 going into the break.
  • The Purple Raiders used a 22-20 edge over the Muskies in the third period to extend their lead heading into the final period.
  • Even though the Muskies had a 22-18 advantage over the Purple Raiders in the final period, Mount Union secured an 84-71 victory.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by sophomore Taylor DeMassimo who registered a team-high 16 points.
  • Freshman Caitlyn DeMassimo tallied 10 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Muskies.
  • Sophomore Abby Jones and freshman Kenzie Bicking each finished the night with 10 points apiece. Jones grabbed six boards, while Bicking added an assist.
  • Mount Union was led by Maddy Miles who registered a game-high 18 points.
  • On the game, Muskingum shot 26-of-64 (40.6%) from the field, while Mount Union went 31-of-77 (40.3%).
  • The Muskies shot 5-of-17 (29.4%) from beyond the arc, while the Purple Raiders finished 11-of-36 (30.6%).
