Women’s Basketball falls at Otterbein

The Muskingum women's basketball team fell in their OAC road match-up against Otterbein Saturday afternoon 70-56.  

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (5-4 overall, 1-2 OAC), Otterbein (6-1 overall, 2-0 OAC)
  • Location: Rike Center
  • Attendance: 214

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by sophomore Taylor DeMassimo who registered a game-high 19 points. She finished 4-for-7 (57.1%) from behind the arc and 3-for-4 (75.0%) from the free-throw line. DeMassimo also snagged 10 rebounds and two blocks.
  • Freshman Milayna Williams added 16 points, grabbed six rebounds, and had one steal.
  • Junior Casey Smith and freshman Halle Morehead ended the contest with six points each. Smith grabbed four rebounds and dished out two assists, while Morehead grabbed four rebounds and hit two triples.
  • The Cardinals were led by Katie McCarary who had 14 points.
  • Aiding to the Cardinal victory was a 42-12 advantage in points in the paint.

How it Happened

  • Guided by a Milayna Williams 13-point performance, the Muskies jumped out to a 19-16 lead over Otterbein in the opening quarter.
  • With 4:16 remaining in the half, the Cardinals used an 11-1 run to stretch their lead to 10. The Cardinals led the Muskies 40-30 going into the break. 
  • Out of the break, Muskingum and Otterbein traded baskets back-and-forth, but it was the Cardinals who grabbed an 11-10-point advantage going into the final period with a 50-41 lead.
  • Otterbein used a 20-point fourth quarter to secure a 70-56 victory over the Muskies.
