Women’s Basketball tames Tigers

The Muskingum women's basketball team defeated Wittenberg in the Anne C. Steele Center on Wednesday night 76-72. The Muskies move to 4-0 on the season, their best start since the 2008-09 campaign.

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were guided by sophomore Abby Jones who tallied a career-high 17 points. Jones finished 6-for-7 (85.7%) from the field and 3-for-3 from behind arc. She also grabbed three rebounds and finished with a team-high five blocks.
  • Freshman Milayna Williams chipped in a career-high 16 points, while also grabbing four rebounds and dishing out one assist.
  • Junior Casey Smith registered 16 points, three rebounds, and three steals as well.
  • Senior Tanner Wirth notched eight points and dished out two assists.
  • Muskingum ended the contest shooting 30-for-58 (51.7%) from the field and 12-of-19 (63.2%) from the free-throw line.
  • Kristie Kalis led the Tigers offense with a game-high 21 points, shooting 8-of-15 (53.3%) from the field.
  • Wittenberg shot 29-of-73 (39.7%) from the field and finished 6-for-10 (60.0%) from the free-throw line.

  • The Tigers outscored the Muskies in the opening quarter 21-13.
  • The Muskies clawed their way back into the game in the second quarter by outscoring Wittenberg 15-9 in the frame.
  • Wittenberg carried a 30-28 lead into the break.
  • Muskingum finished the second quarter 6-of-16 (37.5%) from the field and 3-of-6 (50.0%) from the free-throw line.
  • The Muskies saw their first lead of the night in the opening possession of the third quarter off an Abby Jones three-pointer to make it 31-30 Muskingum.

  • Aided by clutch free throws down the stretch, Muskies would hang on to their lead and win the contest 76-72.
