Women’s Basketball dominates Earlham, moves to 3-0 on the season

The Muskingum women's basketball team improved to 3-0 after dominating Earlham on the road, 100-67. The last time the Muskies opened up their season 3-0 was during the 2008-09 season.

Inside the Numbers

  • Sophomore Taylor DeMassimo guided the Muskies with a team-high 17 points. DeMassimo shot 5-of-12 (44.4%) from the field and 5-of-6 (83.3%) from the free-throw line.
  • Junior Casey Smith chipped in 16 points, shooting 5-of-8 (62.5%) from the field. Smith dished out a team-high four assists and grabbed a team-high 10 rebounds.
  • Senior Sarah Miller registered 13 points, grabbed seven rebounds, and finished with two blocks on the night.
  • Senior Tanner Wirth added 10 points, grabbed four rebounds, and registered two steals.
  • Muskingum ended the contest shooting 35-of-73 (47.9%) from the field and 19-of-25 (76.0%) from the free-throw line.
  • Earlham was led by Janaiya Bright and Alex Gibson who both ended the night with 16 points.
  • Earlham shot 21-of-57 (36.8%) from the field and finished 21-of-35 (60.0%) from the free-throw line. 

The Difference

  • The Muskies went 11-for-23 (47.8%) from the field and 6-for-10 (60.0%) from behind the arc to take a demanding 30-14 lead in the first quarter.
  • The Muskies took advantage of the Quakers 17.6% field-goal percentage in the second quarter to outscore the Quakers, 23-11. The Muskies led 53-25 at the half.
  • The Muskies edged the Quakers 27-26 in the third quarter. Both teams finished the quarter shooting 50% from the field. The Muskies took an 80-51 lead into the final frame.
  • Muskingum outscored Earlham 20-16 in the fourth to cap off the scoring.
  • Muskingum utilized their bench outscoring Earlham, 54-10.
  • The Muskies forced 18 Quaker turnovers and converted them into a 25-13 advantage on points-off turnovers.
  • The Muskies finished with 46 rebounds, 17 assists, and 10 steals.
  • The Quakers finished with 22 rebounds, 12 assists, and 8 steals.
