
The Ohio Athletic Conference has named sophomore guard Leia Smith the OAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for her efforts in leading the Muskies to a 2-0 start to the season.
On Friday night, Smith helped guide the Muskies with 11 points on 50% shooting from the field, and she also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds in Muskingum's 96-62 victory over Thiel.
Smith followed up her solid performance on Friday with another standout effort in the Muskies' 77-69 come from behind win against Bethany on Saturday night. After being held scoreless in the first half, Smith tallied 11 second-half points to help erase Bethany's 15-point halftime lead and propel Muskingum to the win. Smith also registered four rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in the Muskie victory.
On the young season, Smith averages 11 points, 6 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1 block per game. Smith is shooting the ball at a 47.1% clip from the field, and is also 50% from the three-point line on the year.
The Muskies look to move to 3-0 on the season when they travel to Earlham on Saturday, November 13. Game time is slated for 3:00 p.m.
