Women’s Basketball primed for a breakout 2021-22 season

Under the direction of third-year head coach Erin Eaton, the Muskingum women's basketball team will look to elevate the program to be an Ohio Athletic Conference contender this season.

Coach Eaton will have eight returning letterwinners to help guide the Muskie squad - sophomore guard/forward Leia Smith, junior guard Casey Smith, senior guard Tanner Wirth, sophomore guard Taylor DeMassimo, sophomore guard/forward Baileigh Bishop, senior forward Sarah Miller, and sophomore guard/forward Abby Jones.

Leia Smith played in nines games, averaging 6.9 points per game. She finished her freshman campaign averaging 4.6 rebounds per game.

Miller returns to the Muskies for her senior year. Last season, Miller averaged 6.1 points per game and 3.4 rebounds per contest.

Casey Smith started 7-of-11 games for the Muskies averaging 5.5 points per game. She grabbed 43 rebounds on the season, averaging 3.9 per game.

In her first season for the Muskies, Wirth scored the team, averaging 10.2 points per game. Wirth also dished out a team-high 28 assists on the season, averaging 2.5 per game while also grabbing 3.9 rebounds per contest. She also led the team in minutes played with 31.1 per game.

Taylor DeMassimo started 10-of-11 games for the Muskies and averaged 8.1 points per game in her first season. DeMassimo averaged 3.0 rebounds per game and tallied 16 steals on the year.

Baileigh Bishop finished the year, averaging 5.0 points per game. She also secured 21 rebounds and three steals.

Abby Jones played in all 11 games for the Muskies and averaged 7.2 points per game. She finished the season averaging 3.5 rebounds.

Muskingum tips off the season when they host Thiel on Friday, November 5. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m. The Muskies begin conference play on Saturday, December 4, when they host John Carroll in the Anne C. Steele Center for an OAC showdown. The start time is slated for 2:00 p.m. All home games will feature live video and live stats on the Muskie Sports Network and can be accessed on fightingmuskies.com/or, the OAC TV app.
