Women's Basketball stumbles to Marietta

The Muskingum women's basketball team stumbled to Marietta on Wednesday, 84-54.

Inside the Numbers

  • Junior Emily Yeager guided the Muskies with a season-high 23 points, shooting 6-of-10 (60.0%) from the field and 3-of-6 (50.0%) from behind the arc. 
  • Freshman Casey Smith chipped in 13 points and grabbed a team-high three assists. 
  • Junior Camay Baylock recorded 10 rebounds and tallied three steals. 
  • Yeager and Baylock each amassed two blocks. 
  • Muskingum ended the contest shooting 18-of-55 (32.7%) from the field, which included grabbing 13-of-21 (61.9%) from the charity stripe. 
  • Alexis Enochs directed the Pioneers with a team-high 18 points, shooting 7-of-10 (70.0%) from the field and 4-of-5 (80.0%) from the free-throw line. 
  • Marlo Taylor registered 15 points. 
  • Marietta ended the contest shooting 30-of-70 (42.9%) from the field and 10-of-30 from the three-point land (33.3%). 

How it Happened 

In the first quarter, the contest remained tight until the Muskies tallied back-to-back points to slide past Marietta with a score of 13-4. The Pioneers retaliated with a 10-2 run to get within one-point of the Muskies (15-14). Enochs then grabbed a pair of free-throws to put the Pioneers ahead 19-16. Marietta used their momentum to outscore the Muskies 21-8 in the second quarter to secure a 40-24 edge at the break. 

Marietta outscored the Muskies 26-12 in the third quarter to expand the gap. The Muskies matched the pioneers 18-18 in the fourth quarter. Despite the final frame, the Pioneers used a 21-6 advantage in fastbreak points to look in the triumph.

  • The Muskies next travel to Ada to battle the Ohio Northern Polar Bears on Saturday, February 22. The start time is set for 3:00 p.m. The game will be the last game of the 2019-20 season for the Muskies.
