Women's Basketball drops a hard-fought battle to Capital

The Muskingum women's basketball team dropped a hard-fought battle to the Capital Crusaders on Wednesday night, 84-79.

  • Muskingum had five players that secured double-digit points. 
  • The Crusaders had three players that registered double-digit points. 
  • Sophomore Olivia Lang registered a career-high 19 points. 
  • Lang guided the Muskies with 19 points, shooting 7-of-11 (63.6%) from the field and 4-of-6 (66.7%) from behind the arc.

  • Muskingum ended the contest shooting 26-of-57 (45.6%) from the field, which included hitting 10-of-22 (45.5%) from behind the arc.
  • Junior Emily Yeager chipped in 16 points and notched four assists. 
  • Freshman Casey Smith tallied 11 points and recorded three steals. 
  • Junior Camay Baylock and junior Sarah Miller amassed 10 points each. 
  • Baylock also grabbed a team-high five rebounds. 
  • Capital ended the contest shooting 26-of-49 (53.1%) in the field and 26-of-32 (81.3%) from the free-throw line.
  • Eli Wachtman and Emma Burns locked in 18 points each. 
  • Cassidy Bosch tallied 14 points and registered four assists. 

Game Highlights

The Muskies mounted a furious comeback that started midway through the third quarter with Muskingum trailing 52-33. The Muskies ended the frame on an 18-9 surge to trim their deficit to 61-51, heading into the final 10 minutes. Over the next nine-plus minutes, Muskingum continued to control play and build momentum that saw the Muskies pull to within one at 80-79 in the last seconds of the contest following a Muskie steal by Baylock off of full-court pressure, an ensuing basket by sophomore Sam Filiaggi and a Capital foul. Muskingum's chance to tie the game on the and-one free throw rattled off the back of the rim and was grabbed by Capital. Muskingum's incredible 46-28 run over the final 15 minutes of play fell just short as Capital escaped from New Concord with an 84-79 win.
