Muskies rally past Bethany

The Muskingum women's basketball team used a fourth-quarter rally to defeat Bethany in its home opener Friday evening at the Anne C. Steele Center.

The Basics

First Period 

  • Muskingum took the early advantage as a three-pointer by junior Alexandra Carson sparked an 8-0 run that put the Muskies on top 13-4 with 6:56 remaining.
  • The Muskies outscored Bethany 15-10 in the period.
  • Carson led Muskingum with 10 points.
  • Junior Hallie Stocker chipped in three points and one rebound.
  • Muskingum converted on 6-of-17 (.353) from the field and 3-of-9 (.333) from three-point. 
  • The Bison were led by Hayley Holenka with three points.

Second Period

  • The Muskies entered the break trailing 30-26 after surrendering 20 second period points.
  • Muskingum was led by Stocker with five points and two rebounds.
  • Junior Schyler Fennimore added three points.
  • Muskingum shot 3-for-19 (.158) from the field and 2-for-12 (.167) from behind the arc.
  • Bethany was led by Kelsea Daugherty with 13 points.
  • The Bison shot 12-for-16 (.750) from the free throw line and 4-for-14 (.286) from the field.

Third Period

  • Bethany used a 5-0 run late in the period to outscore the Muskies 17-14 and maintain the 47-40 advantage.
  • Daugherty connected for nine points and grabbed two rebounds to lead the Bison.
  • Carson and sophomore Dana Parkman led the way for the Muskies recording six points each.

Fourth Period

  • Muskingum held Bethany to just three points in the final period of action en route to the 60-50 win.
  • Junior Olivia Besancon led the way for Muskingum with seven points and two rebounds.
  • The Muskies shot 6-for-15 (.400) from the field and 4-for-8 (.500) from behind the arc.
  • For the Bison, Holenka finished with two points and two rebounds.

Post Game

  • Carson tied a career-high 19 points to lead the Muskies.
  • Stocker and Besancon both added 11 points each.
  • Muskingum finished the contest 11-for-39 (.282) from behind the arc and 7-for-10 (.700) from the free throw line.
  • Daugherty recorded a double-double for the Bison scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds.
