Carnegie Mellon halts Muskies' winning streak

Carnegie Mellon halted Muskingum's three-game winning streak on Saturday afternoon by handing the Muskies a 78-63 setback in the Recreation Center.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (4-8 overall), Carnegie Mellon (10-0)
  • Location: New Concord, Ohio - Muskingum Recreation Center
  • Notes: This marked the second time this season that Carnegie Mellon has defeated Muskingum. The Tartans beat Muskingum, 92-63, at the Allegheny Tournament on November 20.

Post Game

  • Muskingum junior Mallory Taylor led the team with 17 points. She connected on 7-of-14 shots and 3-of-4 free throws.
  • Sophomore Alexandra Carson added 16 points and registered six steals.
  • Sophomore Hallie Stocker tied her career-high with 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
  • Sophomore Caitlyn Smith grabbed five rebounds and sophomore Schyler Fennimore hauled in four rebounds.
  • Muskingum ended the game shooting .369 (24-of-65) from the field.
  • Lisa Murphy led Carnegie Mellon with a 31-point, 12-rebound effort.
  • Jenn Mayberger directed the Tartan attack with a game-high 12 assists.
  • Carnegie Mellon shot .457 (32-of-70) from the floor.
  • The Tartans ended the outing with a 49-32 edge in rebounds and a 23-9 advantage in assists. 

First Period

  • Muskingum charged out to an 11-4 lead through the opening three minutes of play.
  • The Tartans answered the Muskie surge by outscoring Muskingum 16-3 to close out the period and take a 20-14 lead.
  • Carson led the Muskies with seven points.

Second Period

  • Carnegie Mellon kept the momentum and outscored the Muskies 21-14 in the period to take a 41-28 lead into the break.
  • Taylor led Muskingum with seven points in the period.

Third Period

  • The Tartans shot .500 (9-of-18) from the field en route to outscoring the Muskies 23-15 to take a 64-43 lead into the final period.
  • Stocker led the Muskies with seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.

Fourth Period

  • Muskingum ended the game outscoring Carnegie Mellon 20-14 in the final frame.
  • Taylor scored five points, Carson added four markers and freshman Taylor Dudley chipped in four points.
