Softball beats Moravian to advance to Regional Championship

The Muskingum softball team used clutch hitting and a masterful pitching performance from senior Madelyn Thomas to advance to the Regional Championship after beating top-seed and host Moravian 3-1 at the NCAA Softball Moravian Regional on Friday afternoon.

• With the win, Muskingum moves to 2-1 all-time against Moravian and advances to the Regional Championship.

How it Happened
• Muskingum freshman Tareyn Born blast a home run in the bottom of the second inning to tie the game at 1-1. The shot was the first of Born's career.
• In the bottom of the sixth, senior Kalie Eshelman smashed a one-out, two-run double to right center to score freshman Kenzie Standerfer and freshman Taryn Mickley to give the Muskies a 3-1 lead.

Inside the Numbers
• Muskingum ended the game with three runs on four hits.
• Senior pitcher Madelyn Thomas fired her second straight Regional complete game. She allowed just two hits and one run with nine strikeouts to earn her 15th win of the season.
• Eshelman led the Muskies with a double and two RBIs.
• Born added her first career home run.
• Sophomore Cara Taylor and Standerfer each registered a hit.
• Madi Cunningham took the loss after going six innings and allowing three runs on four hits.
• Sage Snyder led the Greyhounds with an RBI single.
