Muskingum finishes 6-2 at The Spring Games

Friday, March 11 - The Muskingum softball team dropped a pair of games on their last day at The Spring Games. The Muskies fell to #19 Roanoke 6-2 and fell short in extra-innings against #18 Rowan 4-3.

Against Roanoke, Muskingum recorded two runs on five hits. Junior Sarah Piteo led the Muskies with a home run. Senior Hannah Smith pitched 2.1 innings for the Muskies, allowing five runs on five hits and registered one strikeout. Sophomore Madelyn Thomas pitched 4.2 innings allowing one run on five hits and recorded four strikeouts.

In the Rowan game, Muskingum scored three runs on seven hits. Junior Claire Warschauer led the Muskies with two hits and one RBI. Junior Carlee Lamacz added one hit and one RBI, while Piteo added an RBI.

Muskingum will next be in action on Wednesday, March 16, when they host Ohio Wesleyan at Donna J. Newberry Field. Game one is set for a 3:30 PM start time, with game two to follow after.

Thursday, March 10 - Behind senior Hannah Smith and sophomore Madelyn Thomas's combined 10 strikeout performance, the Muskies defeated Eastern Nazarene 8-0, Thursday evening. The Muskies improve to 6-0 on the season. 

Smith and Thomas both split time in the circle to lead the Muskies to a shutout victory. Smith struck out six and allowed two hits, while Thomas struck out four and only allowed one hit. The Muskies scored eight runs off nine hits. Seniors Haley Hawk and Katie Osburn added two hits and three RBIs apiece to lead the Muskie offense. Senior Cristianna Boggs chipped in one hit and one RBI, while junior Claire Warschauer had one RBI. 

Tuesday, March 8 - The Muskingum University softball team left Legends Way Ballfields victorious after defeating #23 College of Saint Benedict 7-0 and Catholic in a tight 2-1 game. The Muskies improve to 5-0 on the season.

In the Saint Benedict game, the Muskies scored seven runs off 10 hits. Senior Hannah Smith tossed seven innings and struck out seven. Junior Taylor Gallentine and junior Carlee Lamacz chipped in two hits and one RBI for the Muskies. Senior Cristianna Boggs and junior Claire Warschauer added one hit and one RBI to pace the Muskie bats. 

In the Catholic game, both squads plated runs in the first inning. The Muskies went on to take the lead in the bottom of the third off a Haley Hawk squeeze bunt. Muskingum's clutch pitching and defensive stops would hold the Cardinals off to secure the victory. The Muskies scored two runs off six hits. Sophomore Madelyn Thomas earned her second win of the season in the circle striking out six and only allowed one hit. Senior Haley Hawk led the Muskies with one hit and two RBIs. 

Monday, March 7 - The Muskingum University softball team remains perfect as they went 2-0 on day two of The Spring Games in Clermont, Florida. Muskingum defeated Northland 4-0 and Messiah 5-1.

In the Northland game, the Muskies scored four runs off six hits. Sophomore Madelyn Thomas earned her first win for the Muskies allowing four hits and striking out five. Junior Sarah Piteo led the Muskie offense going 2-for-3 at the plate and registered two RBIs. Senior Cristianna Boggs, senior Katie Osburn, junior Taylor Gallentine, and junior Claire Warschauer each added two hits to help pace the Muskies.

In the Messiah game, Muskingum scored five runs off nine hits. Senior Hannah Smith allowed one run off three hits and struck out eight Messiah batters. She improved to 2-0 in the circle for the Muskies. Boggs led the Muskie bats going 2-for-3 at the plate adding two RBIs. Osburn and sophomore Kalie Eshelman added two hits and two RBIs for the Muskies. 

Sunday, March 6 – The Muskingum University softball team started their 2022 season, winning in dominating fashion against Bridgewater State on Sunday, 10-2 at The Spring Games.

In the season opener, Muskingum scored 10 runs on 14 hits. Senior Hannah Smith earned her first win for the Muskies after firing four shutout innings of one-hit ball. She ended the outing with five strikeouts. Juniors Mickayla Malone and Carlee Lamacz fueled the Muskie offense, going 2-for-3 at the plate, and had two RBIs apiece. Junior Taylor Gallentine, junior Claire Warschauer, and senior Katie Osburn each added two hits to help pace the Muskies.
