Softball sweeps Heidelberg in walk-off fashion

The Muskingum softball team swept OAC opponent Heidelberg on Sunday afternoon in doubleheader action at Donna J. Newberry Field. Both games ended in walk-off fashion, winning Game 1, 5-4 and Game 2, 8-0 in five innings.

Inside The Numbers – Game 1

  • Junior Hannah Smith got the start for the Muskies, pitching 6.1 innings, recording four strikeouts, and allowed four runs off 11 hits.
  • Freshman Madelyn Thomas recorded the win for the Muskies relieving Smith in the sixth.
  • Senior Karsyn Shaffer, junior Katie Osburn, and sophomore Carlee Lamacz added two hits and an RBI each to guide the Muskie offense.
  • Juniors Haley Hawk and Rachel Hankin both notched one hit and one RBI in the contest.
  • Bailee Faulkner led the Heidelberg offense with two hits and one RBI.

The Difference – Game 1

  • The Muskies plated their first run in the bottom of the third inning to take an early, 1-0 lead.
  • The Muskies added another run in the bottom of the fifth, extending their lead, 2-0.
  • Heidelberg went on a four-run inning surge in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 lead. They finished the inning with four runs off five hits.
  • The Muskies tied the game off a Lamacz RBI single in the bottom of the seventh to make it an even 4-4 score.
  • Hankin hit a walk-off RBI single to secure the Muskies 5-4 victory.
  • The Muskies finished the seventh inning with three runs off three hits to complete the walk-off victory.

Inside The Numbers – Game 2

  • Senior Hannah Duff recorded her eighth win of the season, pitching five innings. She tallied three strikeouts and allowed no runs off three hits.
  • Junior Cristianna Boggs paced the Muskie offense belting three hits and one RBI.
  • Hankin and Osburn each notched one hit and two RBIs for the Muskies.
  • Senior Shaena Mayer added an RBI to the contest.
  • Leah Bouillon, Hanna Blasinsky, and Bailee Faulkner each added a hit for Heidelberg.
  • Riley Cruse took the loss for Heidelberg, allowing four runs off three hits.

The Difference – Game 2

  • The Muskies plated their first four runs off three hits in the bottom of the first inning, giving them a 4-0 edge over Heidelberg.
  • The Muskies scored three more runs off two hits in the bottom of the fourth, extending their lead, 7-0.
  • Muskingum secured the win with a run in the fifth inning to make the final, 8-0. Boggs provided the game-sealing hit for the Muskies to score freshman Mattie Ruehrmund.
