Softball sweeps Heidelberg in road doubleheader action

The Muskingum softball team swept Heidelberg in OAC doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon. They beat the Student Princes in Game 1, 2-1 and won Game 2 in extra-innings 3-1.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (16-9, 15-6), Heidelberg (10-14-1, 9-13)

Inside The Numbers – Game 1

  • Junior Hannah Smith got the start on the mound for Game 1. She threw a complete game and tallied five strike outs and allowed one run off five hits.
  • Seniors Shaena Mayer and Bailey Waitkus each added a hit for the Muskies.
  • Sophomore Carlee Lamacz added one RBI in the contest.
  • Shelby Miller led Heidelberg's offense with one hit and one RBI.
  • Caitlin Dems pitched a complete game for Heidelberg allowing two runs off two hits.

The Difference - Game 1

  • The Muskies scored their only two runs in the top of the sixth inning, gaining a 2-0 lead over Heidelberg.
  • Heidelberg scored their lone run in the bottom of the sixth to come within one run trailing the Muskies, 2-1.
  • The Muskies left five baserunners on base.

Inside the Numbers – Game 2

  • Senior Hannah Duff started Game 2 for the Muskies. She pitched all eight innings of the contest firing seven strikeouts and allowed one run off eight hits.
  • Junior Katie Osburn finished the contest with two doubles.
  • Junior Haley Hawk added two hits for the Muskies.
  • Senior Karsyn Shaffer added a double and tallied one RBI for the Muskies.
  • Seniors Bailey Waitkus and Riley Powers collected one RBI each in the contest.
  • Riley Cruse started game two for Heidelberg. She pitched 7.0 innings allowing two runs off eight hits.
  • Hanna Blasinsky guided Heidelberg's offense with two hits.

The Difference – Game 2

  • Heidelberg broke the scoreless game in the fifth making it, 1-0.
  • The Muskies went on to tie the game in the top of the seventh off a Shaffer RBI double to center making the score even, 1-1.
  • The Muskies took a 3-1 lead in the top of the eighth to close-out the game.
  • The Muskies left a total of 11 baserunners on base.
