Softball conquers Capital in home doubleheader

The Muskingum softball team conquered Capital in home Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader action on Saturday afternoon. The Muskies took Game 1, 7-1, and won Game 2 in five innings, 8-0.

  • Junior Hannah Smith pitched a complete game victory only allowing one run off one hit during the game. She also notched a season-high seven strikeouts.
  • Senior Shaena Mayer led the Muskie offense with three hits at the plate.
  • Sophomore Carlee Lamacz and junior Haley Hawk each earned two RBIs for Muskingum. Lamacz tallied her first home run on the season.

  • The Muskies started the scoring in the fourth inning off a solo home run from Lamacz to make it, 1-0.
  • Muskingum used a big 6-0 surge in the sixth inning to take control of the game, 7-0.
  • Capital notched their first run of the game in the seventh to make the final score, 7-1.

  • Senior Hannah Duff started on the mound and pitched a complete game shutout win allowing one hit.
  • Senior Karsyn Shaffer led the Muskies going 3-of-4 with one double and one RBI.
  • Junior Katie Osburn added two hits for Muskingum.
  • Freshman Autumn Chorba, Lamacz, Waitkus, and Hawk all chipped in one RBI during the contest.

  • Muskingum secured the win with three runs in the fifth inning to make the final, 8-0. Shaffer provided the game-sealing hit for the Muskies to score Warschauer.
