Softball sweeps Otterbein in road doubleheader

The Muskingum softball team swept Otterbein on the road in Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader action on Sunday afternoon. The Muskies took Game 1, 4-0, and Game 2, 5-4.

The Basics

  • Records: Muskingum (6-6, 5-3), Otterbein (7-5, 4-4)

Inside The Numbers - Game 1

  • Senior Hannah Smith pitched a complete game shut out only allowing four hits during the game. She also notched four strikeouts.
  • Junior Haley Hawk led the Muskie offense going 3-for-3 at the plate.
  • Junior Katie Osburn added one hit with two RBIs for Muskingum.
  • Sophomore Claire Warschauer also chipped in two RBIs during the contest.
  • Isabelle Fisher led Otterbein with two hits.
  • Brook Crosby started in the circle for the Cardinals and pitched all seven innings allowing four runs off six hits.

The Difference - Game 1

  • The Muskies got the scoring started in the second inning with Warschauer earning two RBIs via an error by the Cardinals making the score, 2-0.
  • Muskingum finished the scoring earning two more runs in the third inning from an error off Otterbein to make it 4-0.
  • The Muskies held strong defensively for the rest of the game to secure the win, 4-0.

Inside The Numbers - Game 2

  • Senior Hannah Duff started the mound for the Muskies and earned the victory pitching 6.2 innings allowing one run off five hits. She also grabbed six strikeouts.
  • Senior Karsyn Shaffer led the Muskies going 3-of-4 with three RBIs.
  • Senior Shaena Mayer and Hawk added one hit with one RBI each.
  • Freshman Alex Fankhauser, senior Francesca Stefano, senior Bailey Waitkus, and Osburn each chipped in one hit for Muskingum.
  • Macy Allen led the Cardinals with two hits, one home run, and four RBIs.
  • Hannah Dobrinick added two hits for Otterbein.
  • Jess Gunter started in the circle and pitched all seven innings for the Cardinals allowing five runs from nine hits.

The Difference - Game 2

  • Otterbein took an early 4-0 lead in the first inning off a grand slam home run from Allen.
  • The Muskies used a 4-0 surge in the third inning to tie the game up, 4-4.
  • Shaffer gave Muskingum the lead, 5-4, in the sixth inning off an RBI single to secure the victory.
