The Muskingum softball team split a doubleheader against Mount Union, earning the victory in Game 1, 9-0 but falling in Game 2, 5-4

Game 1
Inside The Numbers
- Junior Hannah Smith started in the circle for the Muskies and earned the win. Smith pitched a complete game and secured a shutout allowing just three hits. Smith also notched two RBIs at the plate and launched her first home run on the season.
- Junior Katie Osburn and senior Riley Powers each added two RBIs for the Muskie offense.
- Senior Karsyn Shaffer chipped in one RBI while going 3-for-3 at the plate and registered a stolen base.
- Muskingum scored nine runs off 15 hits, while Mount Union had three hits.
- Alyssa Rose started on the mound for the Purple Raiders and pitched 3.2 innings. She allowed seven runs on 10 hits.
- Cheyenne Bosse pitched two innings, allowing two runs on four hits.
The Difference
- Osburn got the scoring starting in the third inning from a single to right field to give the Muskies a 1-0 lead.
- Muskingum erupted in the fourth inning with six runs. Smith slammed a two-run home run in the inning to put the Muskies up 7-0.
- Powers finished the scoring with a two-RBI single to left field to end the game after six innings.
Game 2
Inside The Numbers
- Senior Hannah Duff started on the mound for the Muskies. Duff pitched 5.1 innings, allowing five runs on six hits.
- Freshman Alex Fankhauser led the Muskie offense with three RBIs off of two hits.
- Senior Shaena Mayer belted three hits in the game.
- Shaffer and junior Rachel Hankin added two hits for the Muskies.
- Muskingum finished the contest with four runs on 10 hits, while the Purple Raiders notched five runs off eight hits.
- Peyton Morrison pitched a complete game for Mount Union, allowing four runs.
- Maddie Pidgeon led the Purple Raiders with two RBIs off 3-of-3 hitting.
- Brooklyn Hellman, Hanna Ingram, and Taylor Gerback added one RBI during the contest.
The Difference
- Fankhauser gave the Muskies a 1-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI double. She also scored on an error in the inning and increased Muskingum's lead to 2-0.
- Mount Union got on the board off an RBI single from Maddie Pidgeon.
- Ingram tied the game 2-2 off a solo home run in the fourth inning.
- The Purple Raiders took the lead in the fifth inning on a single from Pidgeon to make it 3-2.
- Mount Union increased their lead to 5-2 from a two-run fifth inning.
- In the seventh inning, Fankhauser notched a two-run single to left field to cut the Muskie deficit to 5-4.
- Muskingum had runners on second and third when the game ended.
