Softball drops doubleheader at Thomas More

The Muskingum University softball team dropped a doubleheader at Thomas More on Sunday. The Muskies fell 7-0 in game one and slipped 15-7 in game two.

GAME ONE

The Saints took the lead in the bottom of the third inning when Andrea Gahan nailed a two-run home run to centerfield. Elania Harrison then secured an RBI off of a groundout to second to give Thomas More a three-run edge (3-0). The Saints tallied two runs off of four hits in the fourth inning en route to the 7-0 victory over the Muskies. 
 
Senior Krissy Hughes guided the Muskies with one double. Senior Rachel Eberling took the loss after tossing two innings and allowing three runs on four hits. Eberling now has a 7-2 record on the year. 
 
Andrea Gahan led the Saints with a team-best five RBIs on four hits and tallied two home runs. Alix DeDreu recorded the win after pitching a complete-game six hitter, with eight strikeouts.  
 
GAME TWO
 
The Muskies secured one run off of three hits in the top of the first inning. Thomas More retaliated with back-to-back home runs to secure an early 4-1 lead. The Saints expanded the gap in the second inning with five runs on four hits. 
 
Sophomore Jaelyn Meade halted the Saints momentum with a grand slam in the top of the third inning to trim the deficit 9-5. Sophomore Bailey Waitkus then secured an RBI off of a groundout to second base. Hughes closed out the inning for the Muskies with an RBI single to second base, getting the Muskies within two runs (9-7) of the Saints. 
 
Thomas More notched six runs off of four hits in the bottom of the fifth inning to lock in the 15-7 victory. 
 
Hughes went 2-for-3 at the plate and guided the Muskies with one RBI and one double, while senior Kylie Zifer went 2-for-3 at the plate and smacked one double. Meade led the charge with a grand slam. Sophomore Riley Powers and Waitkus chipped in one RBI each. 
 
Freshman Hannah Smith took the loss for the Muskies after pitching 0.2 innings, allowing four runs on three hits. This moved Smith to a season record of 6-1. Freshman Kassidy Reidenbach saw action in 3.1 innings, while sophomore Hannah Duff pitched 0.2.
 
Andrea Gahan and Kenzie Dickerson guided Thomas More with three RBIs each. Hannah Sprague secured the win in the circle for the Saints after tossing 2.1 innings and allowing five runs on eight hits.

The Muskies next travel to Granville, Ohio to battle Denison on Wednesday, March 27. Game one of the doubleheader is slated for 3:30 p.m.
