The Muskingum softball team split an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader against rival Marietta on Sunday. The Pioneers won the opener 4-1 and the Muskies took game two, 3-2.
The Basics
- The Records: Muskingum (9-15 overall, 1-3 OAC), Marietta (12-12 overall, 2-2 OAC)
- Location: New Concord, Ohio - Donna Newberry Field
- Weather: Sunny and 45 degrees
- Game Promotion: The doubleheader featured the Muskingum Student-Athlete Advisory Committee/Buffalo Wild Wings Grand Slam promotion (if a Muskie player hits a grand slam all fans in attendance wearing Muskingum attire wins free wings from BW3).
Game Two
- Junior Dakota DeAmicis fired the complete game win with a career-high eight strikeouts to improve to 4-0 on the season. She allowed two runs and scattered 10 hits, while baffling the Pioneer hitters throughout the game.
- Junior Jessica Matthews gave the Muskies a 1-0 lead with an RBI single in the third inning.
- Freshman Cassie Thomas belted a two-run double to extend the Muskie edge to 3-0 in the fourth inning. Thomas ended outing going 3-for-3 with two RBIs.
- Senior Amber Bova and freshman Krissy Hughes each scored a run.
- Marietta plated a pair of runs in the sixth and had runners on first and second in the seventh when the game ended.
- Cierra Bloom led Marietta going 2-for-3 with one RBI.
- Kristina Larocca (3-3) took the loss after going 3.1 innings and allowing three runs on five hits.
Game One
- Marietta hit two home runs and used a strong pitching performance from Jocelyn White to grab the opening win.
- White (4-4) went the distance and allowed one run on 10 hits. She also went 2-for-4 at the plate, which included a hitting a solo home run in the fourth inning to give Marietta a 2-0 lead.
- The Pioneers added two insurance runs in the seventh on Brey Mays two-run home run.
- Muskingum scored a run in the bottom of the seventh on sophomore Amy Clark's RBI double. Clark ended the game going 3-for-4.
- Matthews went 2-for-3 and sophomore McKenzie Martin went 2-for-3, with a double.
- Freshman Rachel Eberling (3-6) took the loss after going seven innings and allowing four runs on 11 hits, with a career-high seven strikeouts.
- Both teams stranded nine runners in the game.
