Softball continues dominance of Wilmington

The Muskingum softball team continued its dominance of Wilmington on Wednesday. The Muskies swept the Quakers to improve to 28-0 all-time in the series.

The Muskies won the opener 2-0 and took the nightcap in six innings, 10-1.

In game one, senior Jessie Little and freshman Jessica Matthews each provided an RBI single to lead the Muskies to the win. 

Little's hit in the fifth inning scored senior Hannah Reese who was a pinch runner for freshman Kristin Mace who walked.

Matthew's clutch hit in the seventh scored junior pinch runner Carissa Johnson.

Junior Ashley Gilbert tossed the complete game and limited the Quakers to eight hits, while recording three strikeouts to pick up her eighth win.

Danielle Monnier took the loss after allowing two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts.

Caitlin Shilling led Wilmington (12-15, 3-7) at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double.

In the nightcap, Little had three RBI and a double and junior Jaclynn Hess went 3-for-4 with two RBI with two runs to lead the Muskie offensive assault. Sophomore Fallon Gawry added a 2-for-3 performance with a double and RBI.

Sophomore Kristin Gill grabbed her second win of the season after going six innings and allowing one run on eight hits with three strikeouts.

Shilling led the Quakers going 2-for-2 with an RBI. Kerrie Trautman was handed the loss after allowing four runs (two earned) on three hits with three walks.

Muskingum (14-10, 7-3) next travels to Ohio Northern on Saturday, April 12. Game one of the OAC doubleheader is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
