Men's Soccer Ready for 2021 Campaign

Under the direction of third-year head coach Adam Ponder, the Muskingum men's soccer team looks to make a leap into the upper tier of the Ohio Athletic Conference this year. With a strong core of returning players, coupled with a solid recruiting class, the Muskies look poised to have a big season this fall.

This year, leading the Muskies will be sophomore defender Trevor Firkel, sophomore midfielder Abdikani Mohamed, senior defender Collin Smith, and junior forward Edwin Palou.

Firkel led the Muskie offense with two goals during the shortened 2021 spring campaign. He also added one assist in his freshman season. Mohamed helped control the midfield for the Muskies and added one goal on the year. Mohamed earned Honorable Mention All-OAC honors for his play. Smith, who started all nine games for the Muskies during the 2021 spring season, added one assist and helped lead the Muskies defensively. Palou contributed to the Muskie offense by chipping in one goal as well.

Adding more depth and talent to the Muskies will be senior forward Bailey Adams, senior forward Blake Weatherholt, senior midfielder Chris Lytus, senior midfielder Ryan Peck, and junior defender Thomas Rooney.

Muskingum kicks off the new season at Carnegie Mellon on Wednesday, September 1. The Muskies' home opener will be Wednesday, September 15, against Waynesburg at the North Athletic Turf Field. The Muskies begin OAC play at John Carroll on Saturday, October 2.
