McKenna named to Guam National Team's preliminary 32-man training squad

Muskingum freshman defender Morgan McKenna was named to the Guam National Team's preliminary 32-man training squad to prepare the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup China 2023.

McKenna is from Tamuning, Guam, and attended Father Duenas Memorial High School. This spring, he has started all five games for the Muskies and helps anchor the backline.

"Morgan has done a great job for the program this year. He has raised the standards with the professionalism he brings to training," said Muskingum Head Coach Adam Ponder. "While he is adjusting to the college game, he is continuing to ask questions, learning how we want to play, and continues to improve each day. He's a great student-athlete to have with the program!"

The men's soccer team is playing a nine-game Ohio Athletic Conference schedule this spring, culminating with the OAC Tournament.

"Having a kid like Morgan who has played at a high level and has represented his country shows our program is making strides to improve in our recruiting," said Coach Ponder. "We want to continue to bring players that have played at the highest level both in the U.S. and abroad to feel like they can come to Muskingum to help our program but also to help them grow as footballers. We will continue to push to find student-athletes that can help our program move in a positive direction. Having competition at each position during our training sessions is a great thing."

Guam competes in Group A of the Asian Qualifiers and is expected to trim the squad to a final roster of 23 players who will make up the team's traveling squad by the end of May. Guam is scheduled to face the Philippines on June 3, Syria four days later, and China PR on June 11.
