Carnegie Mellon spoils Muskingum's season opener

The Muskingum men's soccer team opened the season with an 8-0 setback against Carnegie Mellon on Tuesday night in McConagha Stadium.

How It Happened

  • Carnegie Mellon grabbed control of the contest in the first half by scoring six goals on a 21-shot barrage.
  • Two of the Tartans goals came on penalty kicks by William Webb, who ended the outing with a hat trick.
  • Carnegie Mellon ended the outing with a 38-4 advantage in shots and 9-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Muskingum's Brett Hanna, Trent Newby, Mitchell Corey and Tyler Craft all logged shots. Hanna and Newby's strikes were on frame.

Between The Pipes

  • Josh Routte started in goal for the Muskies and allowed eight goals in 79 minutes of work. He recorded five saves. Colin Federer played the final 11 minutes and made one save.
  • Eric Bykowsky started for Carnegie Mellon and played the opening 65 minutes and Andrew Ferber and Alec Lam played the final 25 minutes to complete the combined shutout.
