Men’s Lacrosse dominates Anderson in season-opening win

The Muskingum men's lacrosse team dominated Anderson 15-1 en route to their season-opening victory.

Notables

  • Muskingum tied the school record for the fewest goals allowed in a game with one. The Muskies tied the mark of the 2016 squad that allowed one goal against Bethany in a 14-1 win. 
  • The Muskies claimed their first win of the 2022 season. 

How it Happened

  • The Muskies jumped out of the gate fast, claiming a 3-0 lead after the first quarter.
  • The second quarter saw Muskingum stretch their lead out to 7-0 heading into halftime.
  • The Muskies erupted for six goals in the third quarter, pushing their lead to 13-0.
  • Muskingum closed the game out strong, securing their 15-1 victory. 

Inside the Numbers

  • The Muskies were led by sophomore Spencer Zecchini who tallied four goals, one assist, and nine groundballs.
  • Senior Hazen Powell, junior Nathan Robey, and sophomore Travis Geyer each added two goals apiece for Muskingum. Robey also added one assist for Muskingum.
  • Senior Douglas Gorski, junior Michael Honeycutt, sophomore Jack Watts, sophomore Grant Webster, and freshman Alec Terbovich each added one goal for Muskingum.
  • Freshman Drew Schneider added nine groundballs for the Muskies, while Gorski and fellow senior Luke Swartz forced four turnovers each.
  • Defensively, sophomore Trevor Connolly recorded four saves during 40 minutes of work in the net for the Muskies. Sophomore Chase Kesler played the final 20 minutes in the frame and made three saves. 
  • Anderson was led by Sean Terry with one goal.
  • Muskingum outshot Anderson 46-22 on the day, while also winning 16-of-20 faceoffs.
